Jones column: Podium potential.

Wednesday, 18th July 2007

In his latest exclusive column this season for Crash.net, Craig Jones talks about his misfortune at Misano and his hopes for a podium…..

Hi everyone,

I took myself off to Oulton Park for the BSB last weekend I certainly didn’t go for the weather! My parents live about ten miles from Oulton Park and it is where I grew up so I came up to see some family and friends. Thought I’d pop in and see the boys at BSB while I was there.

As for my racing, since the wash out that was Silverstone, we’ve had one meeting and that was Misano. The weather was a little bit different there! We were racing in 37 to 38 degrees which was fantastic. Unfortunately, I was in second in the race when I had a coming together with Fabien Foret and I had to pull out of the race due to an oil leak on the bike. We came together quite hard and pierced an oil pipe so it was a bit of nightmare. Since then we had a test at Vallelunga which is a new track and now I’m looking forward to Brno.

We have got further towards the front of most sessions now and we are pushing hard. We are getting closer to the front of the field and the bike is coming on leaps and bounds. Honda has been fantastic with their support in getting me towards the front. Everything has come together and hopefully the results will start coming our way and we can start getting some podiums.

I can’t wait to get to Brands Hatch, obviously it would be nice to get a podium before that, if I could do it at Brno that would take the pressure off a bit. Brands should be a good race, I can’t promise a podium but I’ll be there fighting for it!

Silly season has kicked off already and everyone is asking what I’m up to next year. The honest answer is I don’t know yet. At the minute I’m concentrating on what I’m doing and I’m not really talking to any teams yet. I will speak to a few teams; I’ll speak to my team and see what they want to do next year.
