A jubilant
James Toseland spent his slowing down lap throwing his riding gear to his fans following his dominant double win at
Brands Hatch, which has increased his hold on the World Championship.
He had to fight off the attentions of
Noriyuki Haga on the Yamaha Italia who finished second with his team-mate
Troy Corser in third.
Toseland was lost for words at a highly emotional post race press conference, “I don't know what to say. To get my first double…. I've have given my wages to do it here. I tried at
Silverstone, I tried at
Donington Park, and thank God we had Brands Hatch! The bike was brilliant, the tyres were great, and everything worked.”
“I've made the decision to move on to the next challenge,” he said referring to his move to
MotoGP, “I've been in this paddock for ten years, I have a lot of friends here and I'm going to miss them. I've got some great people around me, family and friends and I couldn't do without them.”
He has been determined from the outset that this Championship was going to be his as he went on to say, “I want the Championship back, it has been great so far. The Yamaha's have come on strong this year but I've got a good lead now. I have one hand on the trophy and I want to bring it back to where it belongs.”
Haga explained what happened in race one, “I try to push and catch James a little but I make hard braking and tuck the front. I was lucky as our bike I could re-start, but I was unlucky to crash. Race two was a better feeling. We change the suspension settings and I push to catch James, with five laps to go there is big noise from the chain when I open gas. It was a big noise and I was a little bit scared. Congratulations to James on his double win and Troy for his two time podium.”
