Off the line it was Troy Bayliss who got the hole shot but Haga got the drive out of Druids and took the lead. That didn't last for long as Toseland decided it was his time to lead and got in front at Stirling's. Corser was in fifth place but soon skipped by Yukio Kagayama for fourth.
Four laps later and Haga took the lead at Druids hairpin but Toseland got the run on him out of Clearways and onto the main straight. It was on this lap that Max Biaggi was deemed to have jumped the start and had to take a ride through penalty. Despite this he still managed a top ten finish coming home in eighth place.
Michel Fabrizio was on a charge passing Ruben Xaus to claim fourth place. Toseland remained in front until lap ten when Haga got him on the run down Hawthorn Hill. The gritty Brit held onto the Samurai of Slide and tried to go round him at Paddock Hill bend three laps later, but Haga left his braking even alter than usual and kept hold of the lead.
That was to change later on the same lap when Toseland got the better of him through Clearways. It was at this point that Toseland put his head down and pulled a gap of 1.8secs over Haga.
On the cooling down lap Toseland was mobbed by fans as he made his way around the track peeling off his kit and chucking it to the crowd.
