There are only six riders that have previous experience in World Superbike Championship races held in the United States, at Laguna Seca.
Bayliss won race 1 in 2002 and took pole in 2000, while Corser took advantage of his experience in the AMA Championship to win three times at Laguna Seca in 1995, 1998 and 2000.
Haga scored a win in 1998 and one in 2000, but also recorded four retirements out of ten race starts. Laconi climbed onto the podium only in the last of the six races he raced in the USA with a third place in 2004. The best result for Lavilla is a fifth place scored in race 2 in 2003, a race won by Xaus.
The United States has given WSBK a total of 55 riders, five of them were world champions and won a total of eight titles.
The most successful was
Colin Edwards, who won 31 races, climbing on the podium 75 times and winning the 2000 and 2002 Championships. The last WSBK win for an American rider dates back to September 29th 2002, when Edwards won race 2 and the world title in an epic struggle against Bayliss in Imola.
With 104 WSBK wins the United States is the second most successful nation behind Australia, which leads the chart with 125.
Unfortunately, none of the leading AMA SBK stars - including 2003 WSBK champion Neil Hodgson - will be racing as wild-cards in the World Superbike class at Miller Motorsports Park.
