Not surprisingly the doctors had to warn me about the dangers of continuing motorcycle racing – considering how my diagnosis was made I think even they could see the irony in what they were saying and they just laughed when I said “so I should be right to get back on in five weeks then”.
I know that this has been a blow to the team’s testing schedule but they have been great and given me as much time as it takes for me to get fit and back on the bike. Every time I speak to someone at FPR and they start talking about the new developments I can’t help but get excited. With those developments that are in the pipeline it would have been devastating if I couldn’t have got back on the bike again – I have some unfinished business…
I want to thank everyone who has sent get well wishes and for my Italian/Swiss friends who visited. Although everyone I spoke to during my hospital stay kept asking me if there was anything they could get or do for me and not one of them has come through. I kept telling them they could get me a prestigious sports car so when I finally left the hospital I was expecting to have a choice of a least five, so can you image my disappointment when Sandy had to drive me home in our wagon!
The last thing I want to talk about this month is my predictions for this year. In my first column I was asked who I thought would be the movers-shakers and flops of 2005 season. I wish I had put money down as I got my prediction one hundred percent right. It is definitely worth a re-read of my first column in the archive section of the feature to see what I had to say - I might have another go next year.
Ciao Steve
