Corser’s corner: Relief and disappointment.

Wednesday, 26th April 2006

In the latest of his exclusive columns on Crash.net, reigning World Superbike Champion Troy Corser tells us about his lucky escape in Australia and two second places at Valencia...

I was very lucky that Alex Barros did a good job to slow down as much as possible before we did touch. He did a great job and I was lucky I didn’t get seriously injured or even mildly injured really; it could have put me out for the rest of the year.

When I got up and I jumped off the track, I was relieved that I had actually got off the track. I saw the bikes coming at me before I dived, and a group of about eight bikes went past. When I saw that there was eight bikes that I could have been amongst it was relief at first, but then it was a bit of disappointment because I could see that the three of us were a fair gap in front and the possibility to score good points was gone, for sure I would have been on the podium.

So it was disappointment that I lost valuable points in the championship but then relief again that we had the gap and I was fortunate enough not to get hit again. I was happy enough to come away with a win, OK I crashed in the second one but the Championship is still well alive.

We had a few clutch problems at the early rounds but at the last two tests that we took part in we’ve experienced no real major problems. The small problem is still there, we don’t have a problem when the clutch is new but after we’ve done quite a few kilometres on the clutch, less than what we used to get last year but long enough to last a race distance. I don’t think it will be a problem for race distance as long as we fit a new clutch at the start of the race. At the test we found these things that we can change to help the feel from the clutch and the setting.
