Reigning Superbike World Champion Troy Corser talks to Crash.net about his rough ride at Silverstone...
Hi guys,
What a weekend! At least I bagged some points. We had a bit of a tricky time from Superpole onwards; basically I had no grip from the rear tyre. In the free practice heading up to Superpole the track was quite wet, well it was actually raining during the practice and the grip felt quite good, then the rain stopped and the track started to dry out just as Superpole was running and I just never really seemed to get the grip from the rear tyre.
Myself and Yukio seemed to be struggling quite badly. I’m sure other riders were struggling a bit also with the grip, for me I couldn’t touch the throttle or even enter a corner with no throttle, all I could do really was to just ride round and do the laps without crashing. It wasn’t a very comfortable feeling for me and I nearly crashed two or three times on every lap that I tried to do. It was not worth taking the risk to try and go any faster, that was as fast as I could go with the conditions I had, I’m sorry for Yukio that he had to find out that we had a problem by crashing.
Like I said I was quite close to crashing in the same corner as he did the lap before but probably I just used my knowledge and my sense a bit more than Yukio. Yukio was just trying to go fast to improve the position, for me it was just to get a time and move onto the race.
I have been getting good starts in all the races this year really, I haven’t had any bad starts, so I felt I could get off the line and be with the first four or five guys into the first corner. Well that was the plan but as you all know that didn’t quite happen. I don’t really know what happened, I think someone from behind came in a little bit too fast. I basically got hit from behind and I went into Barros then and knocked him off and down we went. I’m not really sure who it was, somebody from behind for sure.
