Biaggi leads Sterilgarda challenge.

Max Biaggi secured a double podium finish in Qatar as the Sterilgarda Go Eleven team kicked off the 2008 World Superbike Championship season in style at Losail.

Troy has had his fun. !!

I want to see Max win a title for once - but his bike is not as good as the friendly and very gifted Australian. :(

is there any need biaggi#3? think before engaging fingers to keyboard next time please.

it's going to be a battle royale this season between the old guard of bayliss, biaggi, haga, corser and xaus. plus people like checa, sofu, lavilla, nieto, fabrizio, lanzi, neukirchner. i'm just fed up of the ducaticup comments so early in the season...

Ducati Cup?,here we go again. Please watch the race again and tell me if Max N's tyre had not of turned to poo in race one he would not of won? Oh and the second race was won by who on what bike? Biaggi on any bike would be up front, Bayliss was mental for the first win on a 1098 and Xaus is Xaus. The last two years Ducati have lost out to Suzook and Honda so what cup do reffer to?

actually, it has been honda (toseland), ducati (bayliss), suzuki(corser), ducati (toseland) in the past four seasons, but the suzuki looks good and so do the yams, it's just a shame their tyres were appalling and nori was too busy shaking his fist in a comic manner to bother finishing the first race. yes the dukes look good, but they always do and they've got some awesome pilots, but so have the other manufacturers.

as for honda, if HRC weren't too busy giving no-hope Neil his '08 blade for the AMA before they gave it to Ronald and co. who happen to have delivered not one, but two world championships for them last season, then the blades would have been challenging at Losail.

Richard Mushet talking absolute rubbish. Watch the ducati cup races again before posting mate!!! Watched both races again and the duc's had quite an advantage, even on the straights they lost NOTHING. 300+ kmph same as most other bikes 298+. So no top speed advantage to the 4's then. All we have to look forward to is the 4's using up tires in order to keep pace (running softer spec tires this year)

hodgeson is as good as all v4jcthe wsbk riders and should have been in this championship, just for us british fans, foggies fault hes in america. dont think honda enter factory bikes into this championship, must be a reason for that, so if honda want to splash cash about on a rider then i,m happy hodge is getting it

Hey timbo,

It is you who are talking rubbish. You DID see the second race, right? Did you see the winner? Did you see how the winner took the lead? Obviously not.

Did you see Nieto relinquish his lead at the end of the home straight. He didn't relinquish the lead. His bike was too fast even for slipstream.

The Yamahas burned up their rubber in the begininning of both races, but were not at any disadvantage to the Ducs. Ducati has a great new bike and two new top riders. That makes four. There were more than Ducatis in front of the Yams in race two.

ducati will have an advantage, superi0rity or whatever u call it in most other tracks. qatar s always been not good for them and look at the results.
it s a tyre thing i reckon at these early stages, and the ducs are softer on the tyres than the 4s it seems

WSBK has turned Biaggi into an axe murderer!!

Let's just be happy that we got some close racing and decent action. I wonder if motogp will follow suit....??

I think Max will have his hands full with his team mate Xaus! Best ride I have seen Xaus since the old Hodgson/Xaus days, and did you see the speed of the Suzukis down the straight? . looks like a great championship ahead of us.

1) the 1098 being already at the top of the WSBK game can only mean that we COULD be back to the Ducati Cup years. Let's see how things are going at Phillip Island, let's see what FG decide as to (i) weight and (ii) air restrictors after PI, and then we'll know whether we will have one of the most exciting seasons, or just another championship given to Ducati like in some of the past years...

2) I'm fed up with those crappy Pirelli tires. I can remember Rossi clocking the lap record on the very last lap in MotoGP, whereas the Pirelli always drop after a few laps and ruin the race.

from the datas on worldsbk.com:

(race one or race two)

Corser: 307 kmh
Bayliss: 305 kmh
Xaus: 301 kmh
Biaggi: 303 kmh
Neukirchner: 312 kmh
Lanzi: 298 kmh
Haga: 306 kmh
Nieto: 308 kmh
Kagayama: 302 kmh
Checa: 305 kmh
Fabrizio: 307 kmh
...and interesting enough, Smrz's bike was radartrapped doing 311 kmh...

This kind of topspeed data is pointless as long as you don't know whether or not the bike was slipstreaming another one or not. Nieto's Suzuki was clocking over 305kph even though Nieto was ahead of the pack and towing his pursuers.

The only topspeed data that would be interesting finally is during superpole, where each rider is alone and each bike is reaching its own topspeed.

I'll check whether this info is available

well, it was pretty apparent on Race Two that the Suzuki was quite faster than the other bikes. If i recall correctly, he didn't even slipstream Bayliss, he passed him at the beginning of the straight.

but sure, it'll be interesting to see datas from the Superpole.
