Parkalgar Honda team manager Simon Buckmaster casts his eye back over the opening pair of 2008 World Supersport Championship rounds - and ahead to the first race of the new MotoGP season - but not before some expressing some frank views on the 'insincerity' within motor racing...
I wouldnt pretend to know why there is dislike between Simon and Chris, but its refreshing to hear someone not hold back on their true thoughts and i think it should be respected rather than cause any controversey. Thats something missing from most walks of life not just motorcycle racing. Its good to see it brought to light in a frank manner too, not all blown up in MCN or something like that.

Buckmaster: what a tosser, if he's got a problem with Chris Walker he should just not shake his hand, but because he is so spineless he shakes his hand and than bad-mouths him on crash.net, pathetic individual

Maybe Walker was just being polite? Don t know this guy but he sounds like a wnkr to me! Chris doesnt need to lick *** to get a ride.
Bizarre, Buckmaster says he hates false people right? If so then he should respect walker for not hiding the fact he dislikes him, right?
What an odd guy.

hmmmm.... walker was probably giving repsect to the team manager of his mate jones-who did a greaet job at qatar. he may not like buckmaster, but you can still shake someones hand in respect for them doing well, and beating walker by some margin. walker is still a legend!

Maybe Walker was trying to suck up to Buckmaster to get a Honda to ride - he's not exactly setting the world on fire with the Kawasaki, but is probably blaming the bike (as usual).

Like others have said, Walker probably came to congratulate his mate Craig Jones and offered his hand out of politeness because Backmarker happened to be there basking in reflected glory. If you have such a problem with it why did you shake his hand. Muppet.

151 If Chris Walker, who btw has been 25 times the rider Backmarker (thx Steve) has been) was to suck up to get a ride, he d go somewhere else. Jonesy s honda is not exactly the fastest is it?
On one hand he says it's OK to shake someones had out of respect when beaten, like them or not, but then says that its false when someone who doesn't like you does it?
So how do you know when it's genuine or insincer? And surely that makes him insincer when he does it to someone he doesn't like.....
...meh, think he's just a little too jaded and confused.

The only thing worse than insincerity is whining about insincerity.

@Chu Chu - Let's face it, Walker is out of options with regards to rides so he's got to look at the lesser teams for options for next year (when he gets sacked from his current team).
He was rubbish in 500cc GP's (even if the bike was not the best he should still have been doing better than he did), he sucked at PSG1 Kawasaki (one win, in the wet, does not make a good rider), and he sucked at Rizzla Suzuki.
Walker was an ok domestic rider, but not world class. About time he admitted it and gave younger guys a chance.

151 & And where did Walkers team mate finish in the last race? And what have you ever done in your life to be judge and jury on this one. I don't think you appreciate the level all these guys are at and you should show a little more respect to CW. I don't like your comments.

If you know nothing about the man or his racing career then I suggest you stop making crap comments about him. If you race private machines against 20 or so factory bikes you are never going to make that big an impact on the results, but at least he had the gumption to get off his butt and give it a damned good shot at the GPs when he could have hung around and earned a living doing domestic series.... and at the time of probably some of the most competitive 500 races ever.

151 I think you need to look at where Walkers team mates have finished and the kind of results they got through his various teams to get a better idea.
The 500 was a mistake, you also have to read more about what he was and wasn't allowed to do with that bike. The PSG1 was never a front runner, he still beat his teams mates and finished higher in the championship than them both (I have no idea why they let him go?) and the same goes for the Rizla Suzuki.
Maybe we're talking about a different Chris Walker?

Buckmaster - total tosspot..you can see why Walker wouldn't like the guy..who would? There is nothing false about shaking the hand of the better team....it's the sporting gesture after all.
Why should I respect Walker? He's been a continual let down in BSB, 500cc, WSB, on his return to BSB, and now in WSS. There's only so many times you can support someone who starts strong and then fades to finish nowhere important, and I reached that limit ages ago.
If you want to support a loser then fine, I prefer supporting people who show they have the talent to learn and improve like Toseland, Chaz Davies, and young Bradley. Walker never got the message to adapt his riding style to conserve tyres.

@gAg - Rizzla Suzuki never a front runner???? Or maybe just a series of rubbish riders since Reynolds left? Sykes has shown that it performs in pre season testing.
Walker did have the official Kawasaki ride before PSG and what did he do with that? Not a lot.
Lets face it, Walker's career ended when he snubbed Suzuki to go to 500cc GP's. Not a great choice, a bit like his move to the Petronas team.

Man alive, have you even seen BSB in the last few years? The last time that bike was a front runner was when John Reynolds rode it.
I get the feeling you're thinking back and not seeing the wins (I wish he had won more) but I can't think of a bike he has been on that was capable of that since his first stint in BSB with Suzuki.
That doesn't mean he wasn't/isn't a good rider, it mean he hasn't had the bike to allow him to win.
I dunno about you but I have room to support them all.

@151 i suppose you just support the top 5 or so riders and that anyone who is behind them is inferior, where's the sense in that. the reason i support mat lagrive is because at brands 06 he did a stoppie into pits to serve a stop go penalty and rode his balls off to make places up but he just missed out on points, to me THAT is commitment but you class him as a loser than thats up to you but he will be quicker than you or i will ever dream of. and is this the same simon buckmaster who predicted in 2003 that wsb would be dead within two years workig in the wsb paddock?hmmm good one simon
