WSBK Superpole qualifying times - Monza.

1. Troy Bayliss AUS Ducati Xerox 1098 F08 1min 44.931 secs

11 people agree.  9 people disagree.

Ducati are playing games & sandbagging with their bikes. Its clear theyve chosen Bayliss to win the championship this year, so they give him the true power of the 1098R when he needs it (like superpole & then race 1), but then keep the other bikes back so that they dont get weight or restrictor penalties.

For a bike thats supposed to lack top speed vs the 4's, the Duc seemed to be rather quick compared to the other bikes, considering this is one of the fastest tracks & there is no chance to slipstream in Superpole.

I like Bayliss & he's a great rider, but not that much better than the rest!

So those who disagree ... how do u explain them suddenly finding 1.5secs on their home track that they shud know pretty well? More than just luck methinks!

& to have the fastest bike too?? Just yesterday people were posting how the Duc shudnt get weight penalties coz what the gained out the corners they lost to the 4's on top speed ... well thats not what the timing sheet says!

LOL. Same old comments as when Stoner's fast. Quick, Dice! There's an Aussie on pole in super sport, too - better go and post a reason why he doesn't really deserve to be there!

Wake up Foo & read the posts ... lets see Bayliss & Haga swap bikes for a few races!

I hav no issues with Aussies winning or even Ducati's winning, but when it happens like this it just doesnt smell right. Ducati are playing the rules here no doubt. Their superstock bike has the same top speed ... so are we meant that the best the Ducati Corse engineers & F08 factory race bikes can do is the same as a privateer superstock bike? If thats the case Ducati are wasting money on an expensive factory race team!

Sounds just a bit too elaborate IMHO. And think about what an enormous project it would be, how many people would have to be involved in it and need to shut up about such a highly controversial thing, even assuming many of them (if not most) would not sympathize with this approach. I say NO WAY. I'll even say freakin' IMPOSSIBLE. Y'all need to just wake up.

Bayliss is a super rider - he has more Moto GP wins in 2007 than Nicky Hayden!

But yea, the bike is awesome too. It is odd how Max Biaggi (who was doing so well) now isn't really anywhere and Bayliss has gone off into the distance now the rules have been agreed not to penalise the Ducati's power advantage.

May be nothing, but who knows.

Ducati know Bayliss can and always will deliver the goods, so it makes sense to give him the best and let the satellite teams suck eggs.

Yeah biaggi was doing so well especialy at phillip island where he showed his true colours,if nieto had not been braking early at every corner(that´s how you win a race by the way)and biaggi´s gear leaver didn´t feel so "notchy"(whatever that means)then he would have smoked em!!!!!!Where´s his mommy by the way

I think they are sandbagging to a degree, but not to the extent that the entire paddock of Ducati teams is involved in a cover up of conspiracy theory proportions. I think some of you are reading too much into it. The reason Biaggi is no where is cause he broke his wrist at Philip Island! He's still a fair bit beat up I would imagine.

Ducati are deffo sandbagging i think they've told Max Biaggi stay off the pace and you,ll get a works ride next year . Same with the other works rider stay off the pace and you keep your ride .

The other Ducati teams dont need to be involved in the 'conspiracy'. They just have to race what Ducati gives them. Remember, the lease deals on those Ducati customer race bikes dont allow for the teams to mess with the motors, there only needs to be a few people working towards the same goal & the rest carry on blissfully unaware.

Biaggi is told not to moan & he gets Bayliss' ride in '09, Fabrizio's bike is easy to fiddle with, & Xaus needs no help to be fast yet inconsistent. Smrz finds himself going backwards, Lanzi rides when he feels like ... so only Bayliss doing well brings the title to Ducati but keeps the rules the same for Max next year.

Look at all the race 1 vs race results ...

Uh oh, looks like everyone's figured out Ducati's inside game. The secret is out! Yes, there's a dial inside Bayliss's bike labeled "performance", that they finally cranked up when it came to qualifying. The other Ducati's don't have this, instead they have a gizmo to cut power to the engine when they come within range of Bayliss's bike.

Because it's not like Bayliss has a good record here. Or that his top speed is 8km/h slower than the 4's. Or that the next Ducati is in 5th. Yeah, it *must* be that Ducati's in total control and just sitting on their thumbs, waiting to turn that knob up at the proper time, and putting governors on the other bikes.

And Max has finally realised they've put a "make over-ambitious move and crash out"-button on his bike which will be activated from the pits if he gets too close to Bayliss, so he's staying back.

I dont suppose all you conspiracy theorists thought about the qualifying tyres used during superpole that might have had a lot to do with the 1.5 second time gain...??

I am sure the 4 cylinders will be the bikes to beat come race day with Bayliss the first of the Twin s.

Greg check ur facts ... the "down on top speed" Ducati of Bayliss was fastest in superpole without any bikes being able to slipstream.

& I could tune/detune any engine a small amount by simply & quickly adding or removing a spacer that changes the compression - if I hav room to play with (which the 1200cc rule allows lots of). No fancy telemetry, switches, gizmos, etc ... simple engineering.

& Dangerous ... they all used qualifying tyres, yet no one else improved 1.5 secs.

But yes ... Bayliss will be the fastest twin.
Just watch what happens if too many Duc's score too many points in race 1 tho ... all of a sudden in race 2 they wont score so that the 5pt diff rule for weight doesnt become an issue.

WSBK = WWF style racing at the moment

So when Bayliss did well last year on the 999F07,,, that was just luck?.. Bayliss is a great rider,,, plain and simple. Bayliss has more experience on a V-twin than anyone in the SBK field... followed by Xaus.... How many here slammed Corser and Suzuki in 2005.... they were dominant.... what was that conspiracy.... Eric Bostrom winning at Pike's Peak on a 999 ahead of the Suzuki Dynasty.... it all boils down to the Rider being talented, confident and having a well prepared/set-up bike. Bayliss isn't just out there piddling around... he's riding HARD,,, he wants to win,, this his last year... Haga, Nieto, Checa and Max N. are right there... 2008 hasn't been a boring year in SBK,,,
