Biaggi criticises marshals.

Biaggi criticises marshals.

Max Biaggi claims the Nurburgring marshals will need to improve quickly for this weekend's World Superbike round in Germany after suffering problems in first qualifying.

5 people agree.  5 people disagree.

Four years after Doohan left racing he was asked about Max's persistent failure to take the 500 Gp championship, which he of course never did. Doohan replied wryly " You'd think Max would finally run out of excuses but he never does'. Looks like the man continues with his amazing capability in WSBK.

are nurberg marshalls good? just ask edwards, haga, chili and all the rest that were nearly injured due to their lack of an oil flag in 99. we were promised never to go back to this dump.

and it proves they have learned nothing.

even in the cars last year, they brought out the rescue truck while cars were coming off to help a popular driver. which im sure would of pleased scott speed if he had hit it.

max is right. nothing to do with if people like him or not, as he has plenty of supporters, even if he didnt shouldnt make no difference, pack your bags wsbk and go to hockenhim.

For once I have to agree with Max, for some reason the track Marshalls at the Nurburgring seem to have forgotten why they are there, as it has been noted by Brendan
back in 99 when Colin Edwards took the flag off the marshalls to point out oil after he and many others fell off going into turn one and no warnings were put out.

This happened only shortly after Colin's teammate Yasutomo Nagai was killed at Assen due to oil spillage on the track, it's not like they are asking for preferential treatment.
This is a dangerous sport afterall and people need to do what they are there for to help.

Other riders might have seethed but said said nowt. Maybe Biaggi's moany big gob will benefit everyone for once, so don't knock the bloke out of spite.

When a track has that sort of history you have to ask 3 things:

* Why would WSB go back there at all?
(They must have been assured standards were improved but looks like they should have been aware things were amiss from the car racing).

* Given that the Marshalling's still shoddy what are they going to do to force an improvement now?

* Can the riders get themselves well enough organised to refuse to return if the improvement doesn't happen?

Don't forget '98 when exactly the same like '99 happened. In qualifying Hodgson's(?)engine blew up and a couple of other riders crashed. The marshalls were unable to wave the oil flags and one year after that they didn't learn anything. Or remember Fogarty when he collide with a backmarker because they didn't wave flags.

But, this is ten years ago, I don't think the marshalls are the same. You shouldn't blame these guys for mistakes which were made by others a long time ago.

There's a big difference between these incidents and this one of Biaggi. Actually there isn't anything you can blame the marshalls for. Their job is to provide for safety not to drive crashed riders back to pits.

Ah - Max's complaint wasn't about safety concerns - had it been I would applaud him. It was about track marshalls failure to help him push his bike back to the pits (which may in fact have compromised their ability to maintain safety for other riders - we don't know whether they simply stood around being unhelpful to Max or simply continued to attend to their first concern, which is the safety of riders on the track. Pushing a rider back to the pits ISN'T a track marshall's prime duty. If other riders back up Max's general complaint, then I certainly withdraw my objection to his complaint - but guys, 1999 was 9 years ago..

What's needed is Max's taxi. Have a car going round the track behind him so that when he crashes, he can be immediately conveyed to the pits or medical centre, whichever is the most appropriate. He would probably complain that the meter wasn't running though.

It may be the marshalls in '99 have left and it might not - But its a worrying indiactor about the culture there. And a simple turnover of a few staff won't necessarily alter that. It can be unchanged decades later.

Meanwhile the (recent) incident with the recovery vehicle hazarding the cars still racing exonerates the current crop of marshalls how?

Look,My oppinion is that Max ALWAYS has to put the blame on someone else, sometimes pilots have hard "fights"and tough passing manoeuvres, but i think thats what they are living for, take, for example, the fight between Haga & team mate Corser, once they go off the bike, they thank eachother for the hard race they fought for,and thant the spirit, sometimes you win, sometimes you loose,so stop baming the other one, just try better & harder next time, but don't act like a spoilled child like you do Max, you spoilled the atmosphere in moto gp (you VS Rossi),PLEASE dont try to spoil te right atmosphere in WSBK,Ans surely not against Nori, because he's just ONE OF the most respectable guy on the track!!
