Ruben Xaus admits he would be happy to see Troy Corser join him at BMW for their maiden assault on the World Superbike Championship, but insists is not aware of who will be his team-mate in 2009.
There is no-one better at developing machinery than Corser (Aprillia, FP1), other than perhaps the late great Stevie Hislop, so I think BMW would be mad not to snap him up, but I have a feeling they may go for Alex Hoffmann

Isn't Hoffmann probably going to race for Aprilla if he's developing their bike? Depends how much BMW want a German rider, but given there aren't a massive amount of them (good ones anyway) I think they'd probably opt for experience in the short-term. Maybe BMW will do somethiing like Supersport in the future to breed new talent...
Alan i think it's a done deal, Xaus and Corser seemed very chatty after superpole almost as if they know they're to be teammates. It is a pairing that would make sence with Xaus and his 'win or crash' attitude makiing sure the bike is pushed to its limits and Corser with his smooth style and excellent development skills and a rider with a bit more consistency for top results. It should be good.

Yes the ideal pair to have. Corser to develop the bike and make it competative and Xaus the crash test dummy to see how quickly they can repair the bikes. Perfect!

If turns out Corser does end up at BMW then it will be yet another waste of a year out of his career "developing" a bike. Firstly he wasted time on the Aprilia and then must have taken a good pay packet to ride that piece of **** Petronas FP1. Dont do it Troy, you probably have one more season in you, dont waste it "developing" yet another new bike. I wonder what he could have achieved in those seasons on 2nd rate machinery

I meant if he had not been on 2nd rate machinery

i dont think it ll be a wasted eyar. I reckon BMW will be top 5 from day one
I agree, if anyone can hit the ground running, it'll be BMW and their deep pockets.

agreed 100% Chu
& Gaz, what more does Corser have to prove? He's won world championships, got superpole on just about anything he's ever ridden. BMW will give him good kit from day one & support him for as long as he wants to race probably. & the pay packet will be huge - very important for a rider getting near the end of a career.
The next question is who on the 2nd Yamaha to replace him. If Colin stays in MotoGP, pickings are slim. Would / could they take Pitt back?

Don't think we'll see Pitt back on the Yam, him and Nori didn't ge on that great from my recollection and he's probably still pee-d off with them for dropping him at the end of the season when it looked like he had got to grips with the bike.
I genuinely haven't a clue who'll go on the 2nd Yam but it seems this whole Corser thing with BMW is in the bag, Xuas was very quiet about it when asked on Eurosport but now he seems happy to express his preference it seems to suggest that it's a done deal.
Edwards seems to be staying with Tech3 otherwise i could have seen him on the Yam..would love to have Nori and Colin in the same team, it would be a very popular pairing

Having Colin come back to WSBK would be fantastic ... & if only someone could convince Bayliss to stay it would murder MotoGP (& anything else) for entertainment value ... not that it doesnt already ... but u get the drift ...

Totally agree with you Dice. It's already the most exciting series, especially when you add the support classes More bikes on the grid is good and it's only going to get better with the new teams coming in next year. Would love to see Bayliss stick it out for one more year....oooh too much i know but seeing as Nori and Troy B are so good mates how bout he joins him at Yam? (never going to happen i know but what a laugh that would be)

Dice, First time for everything, but I have to agree about trying to keep Bayliss for another year in WSB. If he picks up the title for a third time and bags a nice little clutch of wins in the last part of the season, I can't imagine anything better than having Bayliss there for one more year and gunning for a Fogarty-equalling fourth title, plus taking the record for the most WSB race wins. And if he had a certain Mr Edwards back in '09 pushing him hard all the way on the Yam with Nori in there too (and maybe a bit of Byrne on a GSE Ducati at the tracks he already knows), what more could you ask for ?
I WAS VERY SURPRISED WHEN BMW ANNOUNCED XAUS AND I STILL CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHY. OK SO HE WON AT MISANO BUT HE REALLY DOESN'T HAVE THE RUNS ON THE BOARD OVER MANY YEARS. I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT WENT ON BEHIND THE SCENES.

Who will take the 2nd Yamaha - I'm just waiting for Jamie Stauffer (Australian SBK champ - Yamaha) to make his entrance onto the world stage. BMW couldn't get a better development rider than Troy C. With KTM moving in and BMW lining up as well anyone get the feeling that this is really taking over from motogp?
As for their choice in Xaus(Brian) I think Xaus is a talented rider but not a talented racer however it is easier to teach a fast inconsistent guy to be consistent than it is too teach a slow consistent guy to be fast this is the lesson that Ducati and Stoner taught everyone in motogp and I think BMW will benefit from teaming him with fast consistent and clever Corser
Andy, you have a good point. I believe Stauffer would go great. The only problem is I would miss seing him race here but hope he makes it. I just don't think that Xaus's record is good enough although he is fast as you say. I guess that if he gets the right team around him then as you say he may well turn out a good choice. From what I have seen having the right people in the team can make all the difference, I still believe that as much as I like Moto GP superbikes and the other classes is where its at.

Me too guys as he is a totally perfect candidate and the the more people like us keep mentioning his name the more chance there is that people around the world might just start to pay some attention - unless Troy Bayliss can help him into a Ducati of course as he has already said he would really like another Aussie on it once he goes.
Go Jamie!
