Brands Hatch delivers again for Kiyonari.

Brands Hatch delivers again for Kiyonari.

Having played host to his two British Superbike title clinchers in 2005 and 2006, Ryuichi Kiyonari continued his love affair with Brands Hatch as he swept to provisional pole position for the tenth round of the World Superbike Championship.

That's a lame excuse saying the WSB is different than the BSB superbikes he use to ride. Yes, it's different in a familiar but better way and his knowledge and experience around Brands definetly gives him an advantage. It's not like he's racing a 500 cc two stroke this year when he raced a 1000 cc four stroke production based bike last year.

But qualifying and race results may be different. I'm sure guys like Bayliss, Biaggi, Corser and Haga will have something to say at the race. Nevertheless, I hope it's a good close race.

We all know what Kiyo goes like around Brands. He still has a ton of fans in the UK too and that will surely give him a lift. I'm surprised to see Bayliss so far back at this stage and can only assume he will get quicker.

I thought Haslam and Crutchlow were supposed to be riding here?

The HMPlant boys will be wildcarding at Donnington. The big shame is that Shakey Byrne is not there at either Brands or Donny. And for all those who don't rate him, maybe you'd like to ponder the fact that it's taken the WSBK hot shots all day today to get down to low 1.26's. Byrne's qualifying time for BSB Brands in April (before it chucked it down with snow), was a 1.25.8, on a Ducati F08 with 500rpm less than a Xerox F08, 'standard' pistons and 5 months less development !! Bayliss holds the Superpole record for Brands GP which was set in 2006 at 1.25.4. So Byrne would have been right at the pointy end had he been there. Xerox should have given him a 3rd F08 to ride if you ask me. Shame.

My mistake about the wildcards: thanks for clearing that up.

I agree with you about Shakey too. He is a fantastic rider who has had few chances to prove himself at world level. I seem to remember the last time he rode as a wildcard in WSBK he took the double win. Those who doubt his ability just don't know the guy.
