Eugene Laverty is to get his chance to compete on the World Superbike stage after being confirmed by Yamaha to replace the injured Fabien Foret in their World Supersport team at Donington Park.
Great news - would love to see Eugene ride at his full potential and not on a 10 year old chassis

Good policy to share it round, no need for the weight comment, and Karl isn't that big
make it count

Great news for the Laverty clan in Oz, and UK too!! We will once again sit up late at night and cheer our cousin loud and strong. Norge has real pedigree on a supersport as he showed in 05-06, and his 'local knowledge' will benefit his strong racing style on a s'sport. Hope your results get you a full time ride in WSK or WSS (if that is what you are chasing) then we can catch you again at Phillip Island in March '09. Still all in all a factory spec 250cc would really have you sticking it up a lot of those "high fancied" Spanish & Italians. We are all ready & packed for the 'island, see you in 6 weeks.
Go Norge

Great news..Really??
Yes I agree entirely with giving young riders a chance, I agree that they should get out of the UK as soon as possible if they wish to progress, but Eugene has been nothing of a disappointment since his arrival in 250 GP's.
Let's face facts. Past 250 GP riders like McWilliams, Vincent and Robinson all achieved regular top 10 finishes on some quite poor equipment compared to their rivals. But they knuckled down, push hard and never gave up, showing true grit and determination.
Eugene has been on great bikes in the UK with very good teams, his arrival in the GP's sunddenly put him in a the 'norm' for a priveteer and he has show little to be impressed about.

Wiser, I have to agree. Eugene isn't dong as well as he should be IMO. Watching him this season, after all the 'I need to be on Aprilia to do well' he's not there.
As much as I agree with your sentiment, I had to re-read your comment in case I was imagining that you had chosen to refer to Jamie Robinson (who was more about being a GP racer than racing GP bikes) and McWilliams (who really rode the wheels off the thing every week) in the same sentence!

Its doubtful that McWilliams ever had a bike as low spec as Eugene is riding. However i realy am no petrol head just a racing fan

Whilst I agree that McWill was awesome at 250gp's, I think its a bit unfair to rate norge below the likes of Jay Vincent & Jamie Robinson. The depth of field in machinery has moved up a lot in the past 10 years, with most of the grid on factory machinery, or at least SE Aprilia's . Bear in mind that Laverty is regularly mixing it with the likes of Manuel Poggiali, who after all is a former world champion. Don't forget that whilst in British supersport, Laverty was cutting it with the most competitive field in years. I think some of you will be well suprised with the Norge at Donnington!

To change the topic slightly, has anyone heard if Rob Frost will be riding at Donington? He was awesome at Brands and if nothing else he's always entertaining!!

Eugene was a top supersport rider, be it the machinery or him not shining in 250 gp's I would still expect him to go well at donington.

Eugene is consistantly 3 seconds a lap quicker than his team mate, the only person you can really compare his performance with as he's the only person on equally ***** machinery, and Gomez was a Spannish SS champion. Iterestingly last week his team mate threw the towel in and left the team. The reality is Eugene is riding way beyond the bikes ability and I personally thing he will do well in WSS.
