Haga, Corser 'electric' at Donington.

Sort Comments:

Haga, Corser go electronic at Donington.

Yamaha Motor Italia riders Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser will have the option of running full electronic suspension for the first time at this weekend's Donington Park round of the World Superbike Championship.

so much for the bike being based on the road model!!!
may as well give them carbon brakes, this will let them be even closer to the GP lap times
This will just put the private teams even further behind
IMO, the bike should be as close as possible to the road model in WSB to keep the racing close, ALSO GET RID OF TRACTION CONTROL.

If you want to see the road bikes racing watch the superstock.

Superbikes are just like Touring Cars and Rally cars in that they're based upon the road-going mass-produced versions of the vehicle, predominantly the chassis and engine and upgrades such as the electronics, suspension and various other running gear are added.

I'm sure you'd not have a clue how to ride an R1 out the dealership if it had as many buttons for launch control and engine mapping as you see on Corser and Haga's rides, I know I wouldn't!

dear Mr **** Mufullofsh1t,

the class was brought about to be based on the road model & to keep costs down to allow private teams to have a chance
as for me not having a clue?...........what we on about again?

Marlow11: you are looking for the Superstock category. Also the World Supersport bikes rules are more closely based on the production model than Superbikes. I think there is room for all 3 categories.

I don't mind some upgrades from the production models as long as they are available (and affordable !) to private teams too.

Thanks for your kind words Marlow11 (the 11 seeming to point towards your mental age.)

If you've not noticed, you can buy a lot of the gadgets and gizmos used by the teams in the WSB paddock, especially Ten Kate as they produce the parts and sell them. You can pick up Ohlins and WP suspension parts once they've been tested by the main riders and put into mass-production. If you're serious about running a top-flight WSBK team, then you must have plenty of money in the coffers anyway. If you haven't, stick to the domestic championships with lower specs.

WSBK has never been a cheap sport. I'll always remember the year I got to go behind the pits @ Phillip Island I can't remember how many years ago but I think it was when Colin Edwards & Craffer where riding the 2 Cylinder Honda's. There was no part on the bike STD, everything was light weight & each side of the exhaust system was worth 25000 Pounds (Around $50000 US at the time.) So if they where spending close to $100000US on exhaust back then I can't see Electronic Shocks being to much of a stretch for most Top Teams. I also got to meet Mr 111 himself also.. Aron Slight.
WSBK Racing is healthy with the current rules & next year will be even better.. Can't say the same for MotoGP

Costs - It was a lot more expensive during the 750 days. The RC45 programme was more expensive thsn 500 GP's. The new rules have made it cheaper, but the costs for top teams are still very high. The forks and shock are leased from the factory and come with a technician. The traction control requires its own technician. WSB is very healthy at the moment and hopefully will stay that way. It's good to see BMW join the party, but if they approach it with a blank cheque it could start an upward spiral of costs.

I am not against some help for the riders when tracks have been torn up by tin tops. When you look closely at some of the braking points its a wonder the riders don't have more accidents. I agree with Richard Mushet in that you can get the parts. I have found that even in club racing if you are going to run at the front it costs money for such thing as blue printed motors. There is always someone who comes up with something a little better that helps them.

So what do you say about Ducati boring out their engine to 1200cc when the road version is only 1098cc?

cemo, I think the 1098R road version is actually a 1198cc like the WSB racer. It's the 1098S which has the 1098cc engine.

cemo - before this season even started I made a comment on the Ducati being 1200cc, I dont agree with the rule, "if the twin is expensive then build a four" was my view. The rules are made, then if the Ducs stuggle, the rules change, sad really. Bayliss is awesome, but I dont think he would be so far ahead, if at all, if he was on a 1000cc bike. I'm a four cylinder fan, as you can tell, any manufacturer....looking forward to BMW coming in.

Have you ever seen the bit that whitham did about toseland's honda when he was in wsb.
the only thing they hav to keep the same is the frame and bottom crank, nothing else.
he compared a road fireblade and toseland's, they are far from being road bikes.
so as said earlier in the postings if you want road bikes see superstocks!

Anyone's got a clue about how this suspension works and why it is better than conventional?

I can speculate a few things but I'm sure there are some much more knowledgeable guys here on this matter than myself.

haven't a clue how it works i suppose it adjusts itself for each corner based on gps tracking??
Its going a bit far really this i mean how many years until wsbk is 'almost' like motogp and will it be relavent then? Im all for new tech but is this going to be affordable both in terms of hardware and support for the smaller teams.

but thats the same right through any racing, the big money teams develope and the smaller ones keep up or die. if you dont have the backing (money) then dont enter just to run round at the back.
