James Toseland recently revealed to
BBC Radio, that he is eyeing up a chance to take on the
MotoGP paddock in 2006, if he wins the WSBK title this season.
The Brit admitted that MotoGP was his long term goal, and although being offered a ride for this season, he refused the opportunity as he did not want to go down the same road Neil Hodgson did the year before.
"I could maybe have gone to MotoGP this year but it would have been on an uncompetitive bike so I'd rather stay in World Superbikes and retain my title," detailed James.
"My aim is to go to MotoGP but certainly not the path that Neil Hodgson took. I found out through Neil, unfortunately, that riding an uncompetitive bike you just have no chance at all. You need to be in a factory team to have a chance."
Toseland believes that if he was able to gain another WSBK title under his belt this year he would be offered a more competitive
"If I can win the title again then hopefully I can get a good factory ride for 2006," he continued. "...my confidence in my own ability will mean I am more than capable of being competitive in MotoGP if I get the right ride and the right team."
