World Superbikes » Walker smashed not to be on front row.

Sunday, 17th July 2005

After holding provisional pole for the Brno Alstare Corona Extra World Superbike round at Brno, Chris Walker was devastated not to make it onto the front row of the grid after the Superpole session.

The gritty Brit had to get his number on machine back to his pit box so the mechanics could sort it out before Superpole, and it was a bit of a mad dash. "I got a tow back with a guy on a scooter!" exclaimed Walker. "I had to hold onto a strap with my arm and get pulled back up the hill jus to get it back and fix it for Superpole, so I did ride it. It wasn't one hundred percent fixed but the bike was perfect, the only problem was me really in Superpole."

The tow back to the garage helped get the bike fixed but didn't do Walker much good as he then got cramp during the session. "I couldn't open my hand and I couldn't brake. I did the first section and I new I'd messed it up, I tried so hard in the second session, I just kept my fingers on the break because once I'd taken them away I couldn't get them back on," he lamented.

"I managed to catch up some of the time but not enough. I was desperate to get on the front row, I didn't know if I could keep pole or not, but the time Troy did was phenomenal, I'd have been hard pushed to do that, but it would have been nice to be on the front row for sure."
