World Superbikes » Ducatis split by Honda in first free practice.

Friday, 9th September 2005

The red Xerox Ducatis of James Toseland and Lorenzo Lanzi -who is replacing the injured Regis Laconi - were split in the closing moments of free practice by Winston Ten Kate's Chris Vermeulen, at the Eurospeedway in Laustizring for round ten of the Alstare Corona Extra World Superbike Championship.

The injured Chris Walker is being replaced by Stefano Cruciani who finished free practice in twenty fourth. Walker broke his elbow after wild-card rider, Jurgen Van Den Goorbergh, collided with him on the opening lap of race one at Assen. It looks like Walker will miss most of the remainder of the season but hopes to come back for the final round at Magny Cours.

Two German wild-card riders who have made a bit of a stir are Michael Schulten, the current German Superbike Champion, and former GP legend Ralf Waldmann, who are both racing this weekend with Team Alpha Technik. Schulten finished free practice in tenth and Waldmann in seventeenth after a little excursion off track.
