Chris Vermeulen on his Winston Ten Kate Honda ran away with pole position with a time of 1min 39.836secs ahead of the final round of the Corona Extra World Superbike Championship at Magny Cours in France. The lap record that belonged to Neil Hodgson, 1min 40.754secs was sent tumbling on Friday, firstly by Yukio Kagayama and then Troy Corser, however Vermeulen blasted everyone with his 1min 39secs lap.

The second free practice session of the Superbikes was chaotic and one of the fallers was Karl Mugeridge, he described his crash as “I was just sliding for my life, and the bike was so high in the air it was like a jet taking off. That was my number one bike destroyed so I had to use my spare for Superpole.”

Muggeridge is over the moon to be on the front row “It's a big help to be on the front row. There are opportunities to pass, like on the back straight on the brakes. It will be a tight race looking at the times, well until Chris came along!” he joked.

James Toseland, the out going World Champion, heads up the second row of the grid with his team-mate Regis Laconi on the third row. Laconi is still recovering from his arm injury that he sustained at Assen, and he is finding all the hard breaking and tight right handers of Magny Cours hard work.
