Kawasaki's PSG-1 team were hampered by poor weather conditions at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia for their final test before the start of the season.
Rain made conditions treacherous and didn't permit to the riders,
Regis Laconi and
Fonsi Nieto to make much progress. However, during the second of the two days both the riders tried several different set ups.
Laconi only used race tyres with his best time set at 1min 36.02secs. "The circuit's conditions didn't help our work and we couldn't push as we wanted,” he complained, “Anyway we have been able to try different solutions and these two days of test have been useful."
Spaniard, Nieto did use qualifying tyres to achieve his best time of 1min 35.02secs. "I'm satisfied of the time I did because objectively it was difficult to do better. We haven't been lucky but we made big steps and this surely helps especially just 2 weeks before the beginning of the championship," he said.
Test rider, Mauro Sanchini was also present working mainly on engine feel and at the end of the day his best time was 1min 36.08secs on race tyres. “We did an interesting work and the target has been reached. I tried to ride the more I could get confident with the ZX-10RRand I think I've already found a good feeling,” he explained, “I just can be happy considering that I made my best time with standard tyres."
The World Superbike Championship kicks off in Qatar on the 24th February.
