Rumours of Neil Hodgson's possible return to the World Superbike championship were circulating wildly in the Qatar paddock during last weekend's season-opening round.

The 2003 World Champion failed to secure a ride for this season, but could be thrown a lifeline by the Yamaha France squad. It is thought that team manger Martial Garcia is keen to snare another rider to join Shinichi Nakatomi - should a suitable sponsorship deal fall into place.

Garcia is only interested in a high level rider and, should the deal come off, it is likely that Hodgson will make his return to the World Superbike paddock - following an absence of three years - at the first European round at Donington Park, scene of some great Hodgson performances in the past.
