With a 70 point lead in the championship Sofuoglu just needs to clinch one more win and the title will be his. This means that at the Brands Hatch weekend Sebastien Charpentier could be kissing his World Champ status goodbye and handing it over to his young team-mate.
At Brno in the Czech Republic Sofuoglu scooped every available accolade. Topping the timesheets in all free practice and qualifying sessions, smashed the existing Supersport lap record, secured pole position, set a new race best lap and claimed the race win. All in all not a bad day at the office.
"The race was not easy but I am very happy because this weekend I have done something for the first time in my career. For the whole weekend, in every free practice and qualifying session I was fastest, I got pole position, the race win and set a new lap record for the circuit,” he smiled.
“Normally this is a very difficult thing to do and I am so pleased that I have achieved it. I had a very good test here and I had a good feeling about the weekend. We had a great set-up and everything has turned out perfectly. I want to thank everyone that has supported me - the team, the sponsors, my family,” he continued.
He is hoping to have a similar weekend at Brands Hatch as he did at Brno and hopefully claim his crown. “I am almost there now - there are just four races to go and if I can get one more race win I have the championship. I need to keep my focus and hopefully I can do it a
Brands Hatch," he finished.
