The talented Turkish rider, Kenan Sofuoglu finished in second place today at round ten of the World Supersport Championship at
Brands Hatch, which was far enough ahead of his nearest rival to secure him his first World title and Ten Kate their sixth.
The race was actually won by Australian Broc Parkes on the SSP Yamaha, “To win here…I didn't expect it from fourth place. I've been pole this year and I've not been off the front row all year but I've just had no luck,” he explained.
Sofuoglu was stunned by his achievement, his Hannspree Ten Kate stable mate,
James Toseland explained to him what a strange feeling it was. “That was the most difficult race of my life. In 2005 I lost the title, here I know I can win the race but I wanted the Championship. In the last three races I can now do what I like! I think this is the first time the title has been won so early in the year,” he said.
There are very few riders from Turkeys so this title is very important to motorsport in Turkey. “Italians, British riders, they win. I hope after this result it will help motorsport grow in my country,” he concluded.
The final place on the podium went to Massimo Roccoli who had to fend off the attentions of Robbin Harms to take the last step.
The British contingent had an interesting outing with Reve Ekerold Honda rider Craig Jones leading the race for a number of laps before crashing out at Clearways. He lost the back end which caused him to high side out of the lead and the race.
Tommy Hill who was riding the second SSP Yamaha this weekend finished in an impressive fifth place on his World Supersport debut.
