Ecstasy to agony as Craig Jones crashes out of race lead at Brands Hatch.

Craig Jones on his Reve Ekerold Honda had the fans cheering with delight as he led his home round of the World Supersport Championship at Brands Hatch. A podium finish looked a certainty but nothing is ever that simple in racing as Jones crashed out at high speed.

“I'm pretty sore,” he told Crash.net following the fall, “I've bruised a bone and stretched my pelvis apart. Basically the two bones that join the pelvis, they have been twisted. I know I landed hard and when I stood up I was in a lot of pain. I sat down for a minute and I was fine, then I stood up and there was pain. I've had it X-rayed and it is nothing too serious so it shouldn't be too much trouble, maybe miss a week of training that is all.”

Jones is at a loss as to what happened, “I was through Clearways and just getting onto the straight, full gas obviously but nothing different to the lap before and it just broke away and next thing I'm sat on my bum and thinking “What the hell happened there?” I'm really gutted, I'm disappointed for the team really they put such a lot of effort in and all year they have been fantastic. It would have been nice to repay them with a win; I was feeling confident for it. I pulled a gap early on, and Broc Parkes caught me but he was away from Kenan Sofuoglu, I was comfortable where I was, just a real shame,” he said.

Although things didn't end how Jones had hoped he still got a buzz from the support of the fans, “Oh it was brilliant, come onto the start finish straight for the first time and you can hear the air horns and with the lead it was just amazing. That is the first race that I have lead World Championship laps, I'm really pleased,” he grinned.

The Championship now moves to the Eurospeedway in Germany, Jones commented, “I can't wait for Germany, it is one of my favourite tracks from last year and one that I know. We did a bit of testing there last year so hopefully get a few improvements to the bike and be battling for the podium again.”
