There has been a lot of speculation over the future of Airwaves Ducati in the British Superbike Championship. Will they move up to World Superbike? That remains unclear but one thing that is certain, Leon Haslam is very keen to get to the World paddock for next season.
As well as looking for a ride for next year, Haslam was assisting an up and coming rider at
Brands Hatch, as he explained, “I'm actually helping a young rider called Graeme Gowland who is riding in supersport as a wild card this weekend. One of my friends locally helps him out and has asked me to come down and help him. It is also a good opportunity to talk to other teams and see what the score is for next year, everyman and his dog seems to be here this weekend. That is what it is all about, it is the time of year when the rumours are flying around. It is good and beautiful weather, bit frustrating that I'm not riding! I hate coming to watch racing.”
Haslam agreed that with
James Toseland leaving there is room for a lot of movement within the paddock, “There is going to be movement, especially with Toseland moving, there are a lot of rumours about. I think this championship is going to go from strength to strength. From last year it has got stronger and for me it is my natural stepping stone to be here for next year. Big talks with Ducati, Airwaves and anyone else who is offering, I'll just have to see what the opportunities are,” he said.
When asked if Airwaves Ducati were going to step up Haslam said, “It is still a big question, I think it is looking that direction and that the team want to go that way but sponsors have to have an involvement so we need to wait and see which way it is going to go. For me this is where I want to go, I'd love to stay with Airwaves Ducati with the relationship I've built on for the last few years and try and get a World Championship.”
