With just 0.211secs separating them the Troys took up first and second positions during first qualifying. It was Troy Corser who dominated the session at the EuroSpeedway in Germany where he is hoping to take a race win. He was beaten by his name sake and fellow country during the final thirty seconds of the session.
Troy Bayliss on the Xerox Ducati jumped up the order and left no room for any further challengers, timing it to perfection. Following the Australian duo was Yukio Kagayama on the Alstare Corona Extra Suzuki running in third place.
His off track friend Noriyuki Haga was in fourth place on the second Yamaha Italia while
Brands Hatch double race winner James Toseland was in fifth place on the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda.
Ruben Xaus was on form finishing first qualifying in sixth place on the Sterligarda Ducati. The Roman Emperor, Max Biaggi was in seventh place ahead of
Michel Fabrizio. Fabrizio has been tipped as a possible replacement for Lorenzo Lanzi in the Xerox Ducati team and will be out for a strong result to prove his worth.
Karl Muggeridge on the Alto Evolution Honda was in ninth place and Lorenzo Lanzi took up tenth.
