World Superbikes » Wright responds to Biaggi rumours.

Wednesday, 24th October 2007

Colin Wright, team manager of GSE's Airwaves Ducati team, has told Crash.net that the rumours surrounding GSE running Max Biaggi in WSBK next season are currently just that - rumours.

Wright described the story as pure speculation saying, "Nothing is happening at the moment so everyone is guessing."

GSE were tipped to make a WSBK return in 2008 long before the Biaggi rumours arose, but ruled it out due to a lack of interest from sponsors - something the 'Max factor' could help overcome. However, GSE hasn't yet given up on BSB...

Wright is hoping to have news soon regarding BSB organiser's, the MCRCB, allowing the new 1098 Ducati to run non-standard pistons next year - the reason GSE cited as forcing its withdrawal from the domestic championship.

At the moment the 1098 has a piston which isn't suitable for racing, but Ducati Corse need to provide the British Superbike officials with a sound engineering reason as to why they should be allowed to run a special piston.

Meanwhile, Biaggi on a factory-backed Ducati in WSBK next season may still happen - if not with GSE, then he could be placed alongside Ruben Xaus at Sterilgarda or with another satellite 1098 team.
