Former MotoGP race winner Makoto Tamada was "very satisfied" with his PSG-1 Kawasaki World Superbike debut, during a three day test at Jerez in Spain.

Tamada and team-mate Regis Laconi spent the test experimenting with the new 2008 ZX-10Rs, working on suspension set-up, frame geometry, traction control and general telemetry work.

Both riders were said to be particularly impressed by the power of the new machine.

"The bike is really powerful and for this reason I didn't push to the maximum," confirmed Laconi, a former race winner in 500cc and WSBK. "I prefer to start the feeling step by step. Anyway we are working in a good way."

Despite five years riding prototype machinery in MotoGP, Tamada was also impressed by the engine's performance - and says he's happy to be returning to WSBK, where he was a three times race winner as a wild-card in 2001 and 2002.

"I'm very satisfied," said Tamada at the close of testing. "I have already reached a good feeling with the bike, although I was careful out on track because it was my first test.

"We worked very well on lots of things, such as suspension, telemetry, frame geometry and we reached some of our goals.

"I was very surprised to discover the power of the ZX-10R engine, it is not an easy bike but telemetry helps us to make it easier to manage.

"I'm happy to make the change from GP to Superbike. I like the team members, they work well together and they want to do all they can to help me work in the right way," concluded the Japanese.
