Ducati Xerox rider Bayliss continued to work on chassis set-up improvements with his brand new 1098 F08 machine, and ran tyres from the harder end of the spectrum for the most part. The Australian's best time was a 1min 32.2secs, which all but matched his 2006 Superpole time with the old 999.
Bumps on the track surface since the last WSBK visit and a much hotter track surface than the first day conspired to keep the overall times in check. Nonetheless, improvements were found by the top riders, who all now have one final day to set even faster times.
2007 WSBK title runner-up
Noriyuki Haga found 0.4secs during day two, but still slipped a tenth behind Kagayama to end the day third, while
Michel Fabrizio secured fourth place on the second factory Ducati.
Ruben Xaus was even more impressive, since the satellite Ducati Sterilgarda Go Eleven team does not have access to development tyres at this test, taking his all-new machine to an equal fifth best time. Haga's team-mate
Troy Corser was the rider on the same pace as Xaus, some 0.2 seconds ahead of the Spaniard's new team-mate Max Biaggi.
Kagayama's team-mate
Fonsi Nieto improved his best time of the test by 0.2secs on Wednesday, despite encountering set-up issues with his machinery. Sitting on the same time, but arguably in a more impressive fashion, was
Regis Laconi, who took the powerful new Kawasaki up a notch in development.
Team-mate
Makoto Tamada could not quite keep pace with his new peers, setting a best of 1min 35.5secs, while suspected laryngitis prevented third Alstare Suzuki rider, Max Neukirchner, from competing today. He hopes to return to action on the final day.
In the World Supersport test, Yamaha WSSP's Broc Parkes was once again fastest at his home track, although his 1min 34.8secs edged out WSS rookie Jonathan Rea by just 0.2secs, despite a fall by the impressive Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider.
