The vibration problem had been present during the 2007 season and has returned despite the 'very different' nature of the 2008 model and its different set-up requirements.
"We are still fighting against the chattering that seems unwilling to disappear," confirmed Laconi at the end of day one. Former
MotoGP race winner Tamada suffered the same problem, particularly on corner entry.
PSG-1 thus worked on suspension, tyre and engine-braking setting to try and solve the chatter problem over the two remaining days - with partial success; both riders remained at the tail end of the timesheets, but also found a one-second improvement in lap time.
Laconi finished the test ninth fastest, but only 0.9secs behind the best lap set by Alstare Suzuki's
Yukio Kagayama, while Tamada concluded his first official WSBK test 0.4secs further back.
"We're still at the beginning of the entire job but we're improving quickly," said Laconi, who tangled with
Troy Bayliss on day three. "I know that the bike has great potential but at present we're not able to take full advantage of it. Anyway the work we have done has brought us to a good point."
