Biaggi goes home pointless and with broken wrist, but disappointed Xaus is third in points.

“In race one, I had a hard fight until the final lap, while, in race two, I was done by the higher speed of Nieto's Suzuki and chose not to attack him in the three last laps to the chequered flag.”

Team manager Marco Borciani admitted that he had mixed emotions about the weekend's results.

“Ruben is third on the championship, but I'm not entirely satisfied,” he said, “We tested for six days here pre-season and hoped to repeat the performance of Qatar with both riders.

“We could achieve perhaps two second places at least, if not a victory, but we showed to be fast.

“From me and the team, I send to Max our best wishes to be back on bike as soon as possible.”
