Sadly, Jakub Smrz was unable to repeat his amazing form from earlier in the day. The man from the Czech Republic knows his way round Assen very well as a former 250cc GP rider, but he struggled to cope with the one lap format and completed the top eight.
The last man to win on a Kawasaki at Assen was Chris Walker, and
Makoto Tamada and
Regis Laconi, though perhpas not able to win tomorrow, are showing much improved form on the green PSG-1 ZX10's
Laconi was first out in Superpole and beat his best lap of the weekend by over half a second to jump up five places from his earlier qualifying slot.
Tamada was just a few tenths quicker than his team mate to finish 10th. Impressively, both bikes looked very stable in the turns and Tamada in particular has been on the pace all weekend here so far.
Riders who struggled in the one lap session were
Lorenzo Lanzi and
Michel Fabrizio. Lanzi, a winner already this year remember at the last round in Valencia, has suffered a couple of crashes in Holland.
Fabrizio though was fourth in the earlier qualifying session and will have to work hard from 12th on the grid to join his team mate Bayliss in the leading pack.
