Max Neukirchner was again in the thick of it with Carlos Checa in Holland, but this time there was a happy ending!

Nieto was on the pace in practice and in the first race looked competitive. But a crash forced him out of race one and hampered his progress in the second outing.

"This was a weekend to forget," explained Nieto. "The crash in race one happened without warning and I hit my knee really badly.

"I had to have a painkilling injection in that knee for the second race which forced me to use my upper body to move the bike around rather than my legs, hence my low finishing position."
