Other winners through were Karl Muggeride, Yukio Kagayama, Max Biaggi, Ayrton Badovini, Lorenzo Lanzi and Noriyuki Haga, although the latter Japanese rider is set to miss it after injurying his collarbone after a very heavy fall [see separate story].

Surprise names to miss out on the chance of pole position were Ten Kate Honda pairing Ryuichi Kiyonardi and Kenan Sofuoglu. They will start 20th and 25th, while Gregorio Lavilla is also missing, the Spaniard being forced to start down in 23rd.
