Yukio Kagayama and Kosuke Akiyoshi have taken victory in the warm-up to the Suzuka 8 Hours endurance classic, the Suzuka 300km.

Riding for the Yoshimura Suzuki team, the pair – who won the 8 Hours last year – claimed a comfortable win over the works Honda bike piloted by World Superbike regulars Riyuichi Kiyonari and Carlos Checa.

Acting as the prelude to the 8 Hours event to be held at the same circuit next month, Kagayama and Akiyoshi won by three seconds.

The second Suzuki bike of Daisaku Sakai and struggling British Superbike rider Atsushi Watanabe completed the podium in third, while Katsuyuki Nakasuga was the best Yamaha in fourth.

Brit Jonathan Rea, teaming up with Yusuke Teshima, finished fifth on the Honda, but was hobbled by a damaged bike after a crash in the early stages. Elsewhere, BSB race winner Cal Crutchlow finished eighth for Moriwaki Honda.
