Troy Corser has broken his silence regarding the rumours that are linking him to
BMW's World Superbike entry in 2009, the Australian rider admitting his interesting the project.
Much has been said about the relationship between Corser and BMW over the last few weeks, with the manufacturer recently revealing that they have been in talks, but also that no deal had been finalised.
Corser did nothing to deny that, pointing out that his contract with Yamaha Motor Italia comes to an end this season and that no deal has been completed with any team.
“My contract with Yamaha runs out this year and I'm not sure if they are going to extend it,” he told
Crash.net Radio at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. “Obviously the BMW project is quite interesting and there has been a lot of talk and speculation.
“I haven't done too much with them, although I have spoken with them and they know that I am free and I know that they have a bike. Hopefully in the next few weeks we will know what is going on.”
Indeed, Corser claims the sheer scale of BMW's entry means they would be entering World Superbikes to win, a feat he is yet to achieve with current team Yamaha so far in almost two years of trying.
Corser's reputation for developing new bikes is barely rivalled. He turned turned Aprilia into winners, proved competitive on the Foggy Petronas and took a title with Suzuki's new GSX-R1000 in 2005. As such, he can see exactly why he is being targeted.
“Developing bikes is pretty much what I have done my whole career, getting them up to speed and hopefully winning races with them. I am probably the guy they are after to get on their bike and to do that with BMW would be fantastic.
“They are such a big company and they are there to win not just to compete, so it would be nice to maybe step back into that development role and maybe change my colours…”
