Elsewhere, experience failed to count for much for Ruben Xaus, last year's pole sitter Noriyuki Haga, Carlos Checa and Lorenzo Lanzi, the quartet 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th fastest. Just behind, Karl Muggeridge and Ayrton Badovini completed the top 16 with the only laps to be longer than two minutes.
