Troy Bayliss is well placed to score a first and final victory at the classic Masaryk Circuit in Brno after taking pole position for the ninth round of the World Superbike season.
Although Bayliss has raced at the Czech circuit on several occasions, both in
MotoGP and World Superbikes, he is yet to secure a win around one of the most popular circuits on the calendar.
Nonetheless, Bayliss gets two good chances to break this particular duck after recording a 22nd career pole position with a fine effort during the Superpole.
The third to last rider to set a time, Bayliss was under pressure to perform after single lap-master
Troy Corser hit the top spot with his own impressive effort. However, despite falling adrift of his rival in the second sector, a strong final part of the lap lifted Byrne up into a decisive first place.
"Brno has always been something of a bogey track for me but I hope that this weekend we are finally turning that around,” he said. “The new surface of the track has really improved the grip which is great news.
“This morning went well and then in Superpole this afternoon, when I saw Corser's time, I knew I was going to have to put in a really fast lap to be able to beat it and I managed that.
“I hope tomorrow stays dry and then we'll see but I have to say it would be pretty special to have a win here this time around."
