Chris Walker looks likely to beat a comeback trail to the World Superbike Championship after testing for Paul Bird Motorsport.

Chris Walker in on the verge of making a surprise return to the World Superbike fold after testing a Paul Bird Motorsport Honda this week.

The 37-year-old has not raced on the World Superbike stage since 2006 when he was dropped from the PSG Kawasaki line-up.

Nonetheless, despite an anonymous season of racing in the World Supersport Championship this year, Walker looks likely to step back up to the main series for his home round at Brands Hatch with Paul Bird's eponymous outfit.

Looking to match his podium winning success at the circuit in 2000, according to the official Brands Hatch website, Walker has been testing the Honda at Oulton Park this week.

Walker's call up will have come about after original choice Eugene Laverty was forced to pull out of his wild-card ride due to sponsorship issues concerning his MotoGP 250cc ride with Bluesens.

Walker, a race winner back in 2006, would join Gregorio Lavilla on the Vent-Axia VK sponsored machine.
