Simon Andrews has set himself the target of a double points' finish ahead of his World Superbike Championship debut at
Brands Hatch this weekend.
Andrews assumes one of the wild-card entries for British Superbike competitors this weekend, with the Lloyds Jentin Yamaha rider joining counterpart Tom Sykes in taking on riders from the world stage.
Coming off the back of his best BSB weekend of the season at
Oulton Park, Andrews has set himself modest targets for the weekend, but is still looking for a pair of top fifteen finishes around a circuit he knows well.
“I have been training hard and the team are sorting a completely new engine for Brands Hatch so I am excited about the event. I have competed in the European Superstock championship in the past; so I have been in the World Superbike paddock before. I am now beginning to find success in BSB but WSB is where I want to be in the future so I am aiming for a points scoring finish in each race on Sunday.
“I will be up against some really world class riders including ex-
MotoGP guys like Max Biaggi and
Carlos Checa so I need to be realistic as to my chances. I will be going out there on Sunday and giving my best for the Jentin/Lloyds British team.”
Jentin themselves aren't strangers to WSBK competition having run James Ellison in a pair of wild-card races back in 2004. Even so, Brian Toleman is aware that this weekend will pose a significant challenge.
“The whole team are really determined to make the very best of this chance,” he said. “We have had some World Superbike experience before having run twice as a wild card with James Ellison back in 04.
“However, things move on and we are by no means underestimating the challenge ahead but Simon Andrews is riding really well for us at the moment and there has been some tremendous effort within the team to bring the bike to full World SBK spec' in a very short space of time.
“Our existing backers, particularly Lloyds British, have dug a little deeper to enable us to take up this chance and we certainly do not intend to let them down.”
