Simon Andrews is bitterly disappointed to pull out of his wild-card ride at Brands Hatch, but admits withdrawing is the right thing.

Simon Andrews was unable to hide his disappointment after being forced to give up his World Superbike wild-card ride at the start of the weekend through injury.

Andrews suffered a horrific crash in testing at Mallory Park, the British Superbike contender hitting a patch of lubricant that would send him skywards.

Suffering a myriad of injuries, particularly to his knee, Andrews attempted eight laps in free practice aboard the Lloyds Jentin Yamaha but having taken 15 minutes just to get onto the bike, decided to call it quits at the end of the session.

Naturally, Andrews was gutted to miss out on making his World Superbike debut after what has been a big build up of anticipation.

“Everyone has been asking me what I have been thinking about what sort of results I am going to get, and I really think we could have been in the top ten,” he told Crash.net Radio. “It is gutting for me and the team, so to be let down by an accident before the weekend is such a shame.

“There were a few older bikes at Mallory and it is the same old story when you get those sort of bikes because you get leaks and mishaps every now and again.

“Basically, the bike slipped on some kind of lubricant and low-sided, but then it caught grip, picked me up and sent me flying off into the air and behind the trees. It was a big crash, so I am pleased to have not come away with any broken bones.”

His list of injuries is a comprehensive one, with several sprained muscles, not to mention the cuts and bruises he suffered when the impact managed to cut through his leathers.

“My right ankle is sprained and it needs strapping, I've torn a cruciate ligament in my knee, sprained my elbow, cut and bruised my elbow, sprained my wrist, cut my fingers and there is something wrong with my hand too. Just a list of muscle and tendon injuries.”
