Troy Bayliss wins at Donington Park.

Comment on this Story
Troy Bayliss has won the first World Superbike race of the weekend after overhauling a four second aggregate gap to Tom Sykes at the restart.

With the race split in two following several crashes caused by Noriyuki Haga's spilt oil, Sykes led away from pole position but when he mis-read a flag and eased off on lap two, it allowed Bayliss through.

From there, the Aussie pulled away to win by five seconds on the road, and 1.2secs by aggregate, from Sykes.

The race was ended three laps from home when rain began falling, but confusion surrounded third place after Max Biaggi was hauled up onto the podium in place of team-mate Ruben Xaus. It seems Xaus, who crashed towards the end, has been removed from the results as he was the reason for the red flag, rather than the weather

As such, a surprised looking Biaggi was classified on the podium, with the top ten being rounded out by Gregorio Lavilla, Yukio Kagayama, Jakub Smrz, Fonsi Nieto, Leon Haslam, Karl Muggeridge and James Ellison.
