Ruben Xaus has branded the rule that you must return to the pit-lane following a red flag in five minutes ‘deeply wrong' after seeing a podium finish snatched away from him at
Donington Park.
Xaus was running a comfortable third when the red flags were brought out following a brief shower, but he was one of three riders to be caught out by the conditions and slid off the Sterilgarda Ducati at Starkey's Bridge.
Although the results were counted one lap back, placing Xaus third, his fall meant he didn't return to the pit-lane within the allotted time.
Even worse for him, he was stood on the podium when he was told he'd not been classified in the results (pictured). Naturally, he was furious at the ruling.
"I'm really sorry to have lost the podium in race one," said the Spaniard. "I think that this rule is deeply wrong because it took away from me a result taken on the track.
"In race two I had a problem with the electronic[quickshift] after just a couple of laps. I was forced to shift closing the gas and so losing precious time.”
