Eugene Laverty is determined to compete, despite injuring his feet at Indianapolis.

Eugene Laverty is facing a race to be fit in time for his second World Supersport outing after injuring his feet in an accident during the MotoGP weekend at Indianapolis.

Laverty fell from the Blusens Aprilia in practice at considerable speed, fracturing the fifth metatarsal on his left foot and a fractured toe on his right foot.

Although the damage to his 250GP campaign was minimised by the cancellation of the race, it means he has less than a week to prepare for his ride in the World Supersport Championship with Yamaha at Vallelunga.

Together with the long journey from the United States to Italy, Laverty admits he is nervous about the prospect of whether he will be fit in time, but he is determined to fulfil his duties.

“I got off lucky today with the 250 race being cancelled so I didn't miss out on any points,” he said. I guess you could say that I picked a good weekend to get injured!

“Right now I'm thinking about trying to prepare for my second World Supersport outing at Vallelunga next weekend. I'm going to give it a shot as it's an important race for me if I want to move there next season.

”Yamaha have given me a great opportunity so if I'm able I will ride. It's vital that I do all I can to recover in the next few days and the long flight home doesn't help matters but it is what it is. I'll see how my feet fair on Thursday.”
