World Superbikes » Haga eyeing another double from pole.

Saturday, 4th October 2008

Noriyuki Haga is chasing a 'double double' after scorching to pole position at a chilly Magny-Cours.

Noriyuki Haga has set his sights on another double victory at Magny-Cours after scoring a superb first pole position of the season in the penultimate round of the World Superbike Championship.

The Japanese rider comes to France on the back of a second double win of the season at Vallelunga, adding to his triumphs at the Nurburgring earlier in the year. However, Magny-Cours is also the scene of a double win from 2007 too, so Haga is confident he has the pace to repeat that feat in 2008.

Although it is his first pole position of the season, Haga is still capable of overhauling Troy Bayliss for the championship win, even if his chances look slim.

As such, he is more hopeful of at least snatching second in the standings from his Yamaha team-mate Troy Corser, provided it remains dry.

“I'm doing very well in this period and I'm very happy for pole position,” he said. “However, the situation this weekend was not so good, it was raining and dry and I cannot find the right settings but that situation is the same for everybody. I just have to check another setting for tomorrow and then I'll be ready.”
