At the Italian round of the World Superbike Championship at Monza on Sunday, former series star Aaron Slight completed two laps of the track on the Mondial Piega in front of over 50,000 fans (pictured).
Thirty-seven year-old Slight holds the record for the number of WSBK starts, having taken part in 229 races. He was two times championship runner-up, claiming 13 wins and 87 podium places during his career.
Aaron left the Castrol Honda team - and road racing - at the end of the 2000 season, but has remained passionately interested ever since – hence his invite to ride the high performance Piega.
"In the past, I've only ridden racebikes and thought roadbikes didn't handle well and couldn't be as much fun," began Slight. "But after trying the Piega, I've had to change my mind. It looks good and feels like a real racebike.
"It was good fun putting in a couple of laps at Monza and being enthusiastically cheered on by the fans. I haven't been on the race scene for a few years, but they gave me a great welcome," he added.
Slight was quick to point out that the one-off Monza outing was in no way a sign of his future return to the series.
