Lorenzo Lanzi

Lorenzo Lanzi

PERSONAL DETAILS
NAME:   LORENZO LANZI
TEAM:   RG TEAM
NATIONALITY:   ITALIAN
DATE OF BIRTH:   26/10/1981
MARRIED:   SINGLE

Lorenzo Lanzi 2008 Sticks with Ducati machinery, but now riding for the privateer RG Team.

2007 Remains alongside reigning champion Troy Bayliss at the Ducati Xerox Team and knows he must deliver. Converts promising winter tests into a third position at the Qatar season opener, where he surprisingly outperforms Bayliss, but it proves a false dawn and Lorenzo fails to claim another podium. Ends the year seventh in the championship, one place behind satellite Ducati rider Ruben Xaus, and it's no surprise when Lanzi loses his factory seat, to Michel Fabrizio, for 2008.

2006 Rewarded for his 2005 efforts with a factory Ducati Xerox Team ride alongside returning former champion Troy Bayliss, but spends whole season firmly in the shadow of the Australian. Two third places at round three prove a false dawn and Lanzi never appears on the rostrum for the rest of the season, but surprisingly keeps his seat for 2007 despite facing opposition from Neil Hodgson, Gregorio Lavilla and Alex Barros.

2005 Promoted to the World Superbike championship to ride for the 'official' satellite Ducati SC Caracchi team, riding a non-factory spec 999. Has a forgettable first five races, but starts scoring consistent - if unspectacular - finishes from Misano onwards.

After round nine of twelve, his best finish is a fifth place - but with factory rider Regis Laconi injured, Lanzi is drafted into the Ducati Xerox Team, alongside James Toseland, for the following round at Lausitzring.

Makes a stunning impact with pole position on his factory debut, but ruins any chance of a race one win by running wide at the first turn and rejoining, at the front, further around the circuit!

Receives a ride through penalty, ending any podium hopes, as a result - but makes up for his race one misdemeanour by sensationally winning race two. Returns to Caracchi team for next round at Imola, but fails to finish the one and only race, before being given a factory bike (in Caracchi colours) for the Magny Cours season finale.

Qualifies second, behind Honda's Chris Vermeulen, but finishes just ninth in race one - however, he then effectively secures a full time 2006 factory seat by winning race two. 8th overall in championship.

2004 5th in the World Supersport championship on a factory Ducati Breil 749 in a championship dominated by four-cylinders. No podium finishes.

2003 2nd in the Superstock 1000 championship. 4 wins, 2 pole positions and 6 podiums from 9 races.
