Rob Huff claimed his first and only Chevrolet's second ever World Touring Car Championship victory in the second race of the day at Brno, holding off Andy Priaulx from start to finish to lead home a British 1-2.
Huff's win comes after he converted his pole position, courtesy of a superb drive from 24th on the grid to eighth in the first race, into Chevrolet's second win of the season, following on from Alain Menu's triumph at
Brands Hatch.
Priaulx strengthened his championship lead with second place, while Yvan Muller claimed a controversial third place after punting off sparring partner Alex Zanardi at the start of the last lap, the third time in four races the duo have collided.
Lining up on pole position for the first time, be it through setting the fastest time in qualifying for the first race, or finishing eighth in that race to secure the top spot, it was an ‘all-blue' front row after Alain Menu also lined up second on the grid.
However, any hopes of a magical 1-2 finish were dashed as soon as the lights went green when the rear-wheel drive BMWs yet again left their front-driven rivals standing from the start, the most notable mover being Andy Priaulx from fourth on the grid, diving past Menu, only for a strong starting Huff to hold his compatriot at bay with an equally aggressive line into the long first corner.
Menu slotted into third, ahead of Jorg Muller, up from eighth on the grid, Yvan Muller, Tom Coronel and Alex Zanardi, the latter having had his strong start baulked by jostling for position around the first corner.
Nonetheless, despite his set back, it was Zanardi who would prove to be the man on the move, the Italian utilising the early race pace he also showed in the first event, to move ahead Coronel first and then past the leading SEAT of Yvan Muller for fifth.
