Hi to all the
Crash.net readers, and thanks for taking the time to read my column.
This is a quick update on my progress in the World Touring Car Championship. I have had two races since my last column! It’s been busy busy busy with all the travelling between the European races. Since Valencia I have raced on the super fast and exciting streets of Pau in France, and then on the quick fast flowing circuit of Brno in the Czech Republic.
On to France, for me this was a big milestone in my life as I always wanted to compete on a street circuit, and what a circuit to make that debut on, the night before the race I got in to my rental car and spent three hours driving the circuit, as the roads re-open to the public at 8pm. I waited until 12 to drive it as I wanted as little traffic as possible to contend with. It was brilliant to learn it in my rental car, I saw where all the bumps and kerbs were, and it was well worth the late night!
From the moment I started Free practice one I was in love with the circuit, it is thrilling to drive and reminded me very much of driving the tight roads of Dalkey and Killiney in Dublin, where I have had much practice over the years!
Three laps in to qualifying the sub frame on my car suddenly broke and left me watching qualifying from the sidelines once again. It was obvious why it broke, the car was getting such a pounding over the kerbs that the suspension just couldn’t cope any more, many of drivers suffered the same fate.
