Only a few days until the next round at Anderstorp and I’m looking forward to racing on a permanent circuit. Porto was a pretty hard track to race on; street circuits are difficult to overtake on and it’s very easy to damage the car so you always have to be very careful on how you approach the whole weekend.
Qualifying was definitely an interesting moment; I set my fastest lap whilst having a shunt…which is not something you tend to aim for as a driver. Thankfully, the team did an amazing job putting my car back together in time for the races.
Since then, I’ve had a brief holiday to make sure I’m on top form for the rest of the season. Training doesn’t stop though but it’s good to be in away for a little bit and catch up with some of my friends. It’s also nice to see some sunshine; a welcomed change from England’s grey summer!
The next two races are at Anderstorp, a track that I’ve never been to before. N.Technology Alfa Romeo have a great record here though so I hope that this makes up for not knowing the circuit. I always make sure I research the track as much as possible in cases like these and Sweden is no different. I’ve mentioned before that on-board footage is the best thing aside from visiting the track and that’s mainly because it helps visualise corners sequences before getting to the circuit. The quicker a driver feels familiar with the track, the quicker they can concentrate on how the car behaves and make the necessary changes towards the best set-up.
The next few days are all about the race weekend. I’ll be travelling to Sweden soon and, along with the usual team briefings, there is also some PR work planned for me.
Brands Hatch is coming up (23 September) and as one of the three English drivers in the WTCC, I’ll be helping to promote the round as much as possible…Home races are always pretty special so I hope I can count on all the Crash.net fans for some trackside support!
Until next time,
JT
